Level 4 Awards in Food Safety

The Level 4 awards are available in two sector-specific qualifications:

  • Level 4 Award in Managing Food Safety in Catering
  • Level 4 Award in Food Safety Management for Manufacturing

These qualifications are suitable for managers, supervisors and senior hygiene personnel including:

  • Production managers
  • Trainers
  • Owners or managers of food businesses
  • Supervisors or shift managers
  • Hygiene auditors

The Level 4 qualifications are essential for those in a management or supervisory role and provide an in-depth understanding of the principles of good practice in food safety with emphasis on the importance of the management of systems and staff.

Food-borne illnesses
Physical contamination of food
Food storage, temperature control and preservation
Design and construction of food premises and
equipment
Cleaning and disinfection
Pest control
Personal hygiene
Training strategies
Legislation
Management control techniques

Five day programme. Additional sessions can be added for revision and assignment work.

Assessment is by a controlled assignment and an examination paper which are both completed under examination conditions.

It is recommended that candidates have an understanding of food hygiene and safety and ideally hold a current level 3 qualification (within the last 3 years).
